Where most neighborhoods were developed out of flat plains or cotton farms, Bluffview was developed from the dramatic topography of a dairy farm. In 1924 John P. Stevens, a developer, who in the late 1800s owned the ornate frame mansion at 4103 Swiss Avenue and was also responsible for Stevens Park in Oak Cliff, bought a 215 acre dairy farm along the 50 foot bluffs of Bachman Creek. J.P. Stevens developed this farm into one acre lots along the creeks, streams and tributaries of Bachman Creek that laced the rolling terrain of the neighborhood he dedicated as Bluffview.
